A metropolitan city derives its electrical power from thre generating plants A, B, and C. Each plant has a generating capacity of 50 MW. The chances that the generating plants wil be shut down (for periodic maintenance, due to overload, acidents, etc) in any given wek are, respectively, 5%, 5%, and 10%. The operations of plants A and B are related in such a way that in case of a shutdown at one plant, there is a probabilty of 50% that the other plant wil also shut down due to overlad, whereas the operation of plant C is independent of the other two plants. 6-1) During a severe storm, lighting knocked out the power lines from plant A, and
repair of the lines wil take at least 1 wek. What is the chance that the city
wil sufer a complete blackout(no power) in the wek caused by the storm?
6-2) What is the probabilty that the city wil have no power in any given wek?
6-3) What is the probabilty that the available power suply to the city is les than
or equal to 10 MW in a given wek?
