There was a bowl of cherries on the table.  First Sam came along. He was hungry because he missed lunch, so he ate half the cherries in the bowl.

Anichka came in the kitchen next. She didn't have dessert at lunch, so she ate 1/3 of the cherries left in the bowl.

Aditi followed her to the kitchen and she took 3/4 of the remaining cherries.

Mira ran into the kitchen, grabbed one cherry from the bowl, and ran out again. That left one cherry in the bowl. How many were in the bowl to begin with?
