Each part of an expression that is separated by addition or subtraction signs is called a term.  If two terms contain the same variable(s), including the same exponents, if any, they are called like terms. Here are examples of like terms:

3x and -4x

3x^2 and -100x^2

These are NOT like terms:

-3x and -2x^2

5x and 5x^2

10 and 15x

Why are the 3 examples above not like terms? Explain.
