Scenario: Tom and Jerry measured the length of a yardstick and the length of a foot-long string and obtained 92.44 cm for the length of a yard and 31.48 cm for the length of a foot. 1) Given the exact value of 1 yard is 91.44 cm and of 1 foot is 30.48 cm, find the measurement error in the results obtained by Tom and Jerry.

2) Tom thinks that the two measurements are equally inaccurate. Jerry thinks that one of the two measurements is more accurate than the other. Find the error in measuring the length of 1 yard as a fraction of the exact length of 1 yard and give your answer as a percentage.

3) Find the error in measuring the length of 1 foot as a fraction of the exact length of 1 foot and give your answer as a percentage.

4) In what ways could expressing measurement errors as a percentage of the exact value be helpful?

5) How would you compare measurement errors?
