Luis, Sun Tse, and Jermaine all set out from the same city to a vacation spot in a neighboring state 240 miles away. Luis left his home at 9:00 a. m. The following figures are odometer readings from Luis's trip from start to finish:
9:00 a. m, 8192
10:00 a. m, 8267
11:00 a. m, 8327
11:30 a. m, 8327
12:30 p. m, 8382
1:30 p. m, 8432

The total number of miles driven, d, by Sun Tse can be described by the following piecewise function, where t is hours past midnight:

*see attachment for graph*

1)Who arrived at the destination first? At what time did they arrive? At what time did the other two arrive?

2)Were there any periods in any of the three trips when the miles traveled did not increase? If so, can you explain why?

3)Do the three trips show a change in average speed in the later hours of travel as compared with the earlier hours of travel? If so, can you explain why?

4)How can you present all three trips together so that their total distance traveled and time can be compared? State the advantages or disadvantages of the method you choose

1- is the product of two rational numbers irrational or rational? first, make a hypothesis by multiplying two rational numbers. then, use variables such as x=a/b and y=c/d and the closure property of integers to prove your hypothesis. 2- what do you think the product of a nonzero rational number and an irrational number is? is it rational or irrational? make use of variables, the closure property of integers, and possibly a proof by contradiction to prove your hypothesis. 3- why do we have to specify that the rational number must be nonzero when we determine what the product of a nonzero rational number and an irrational number is? if the rational number were 0, would it give us the same result we found in part b?
