Cats in my opinion are active but lazy at the same time. They enjoy eating and taking sun baths while sleeping. However they enjoy playing and climbing from time to time. I feel that cats would be a better choice for someone with a sedentary lifestyle. Especially if they are working from home as cats enjoy being isolated but do not like to be ignored during their attention craving moments.

Dogs on the other hand are very active and require lots of responsibility and work. They are very protective of their owners and enjoy being with their owner(s) and other dogs. They are very patient and would probably be a better family pet than cats since cats prefer to be alone most of the time. Because dogs can work for a family better I would say dogs.
