Should the Nobel Prize in Literature be awarded to Songwriters?

The Nobel prize is one of the more prestigious awards. The Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded annually. This award is given to a writer that created the most outstanding piece of literature. In 2016 there was controversy regarding the recipient Bob Dylan, who was a musician. This was the first time the award was given to a musician and not a writer. The Nobel Prize in Literature should have never been given to this songwriter because songwriters will overshine actual writers; songwriters have many other awards they can qualify for, and even though songwriting is very similar and takes talent it is unjust to authors.

If The Nobel Prize in Literature starts to be given to songwriters, the chances of a writer winning the award will decrease even more. The other enough awards, “He does deserve the many Grammys he has received, including a lifetime achievement award, which he won in 1991. He unquestionably belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, into which he was inducted in 1988...when the Nobel committee gives the literature prize to a musician, it misses the opportunity to honor a writer” (North, par. 1, 3). This shows how songwriters get the appreciation they deserve but will take away from the appreciation writers deserve by getting awarded the Nobel prize of Literature. Although songwriting and writing as an author are similar they are still different.
