Have you heard of Six Sigma? It's a process that was developed and implemented at
General Electric in the 1990's to minimize errors in production, such that all products
within six standard deviations of the mean would be free of any defect. “A six sigma
process is one in which 99.99966% of all opportunities to produce some feature of a part are
statistically expected to be free of defects."-WIKIPEDIA GE's Web site states that from
2015-2019, GE manufactured 14,315 airplane engines. If they were operating at Six
Sigma efficiency, how many engines would you mathematically expect to be defective?
At what production level would you expect to see the first defect?
