HELPPP MEE!!! Throughout this lesson, you have practiced creating opinions, making inferences, and using text evidence from informational and fiction texts as support. You have also learned how figurative language and word choices have an effect on a reader’s understanding.

Now, you will compile all you have learned into an opinion piece that compares and contrasts the two texts, Quake! and Earthquakes. Remember, an opinion is a belief or judgment that you form after gathering and considering evidence.

For this opinion piece, you will decide which text you think offers a stronger account of what an earthquake is like and explain why you have that opinion. Use a Venn Diagram to help you determine the differences between the two texts and which one provides a stronger account. Be sure to record quotations, details, and examples from each text on your Venn diagram that may be used to support your opinion.

Here is what you need to include:

An introduction that names the texts you are writing about and states the opinion
A body that supplies two to three reasons for the opinion
A body that gives at least two details and examples to support your reasons
The body uses details and examples from both texts
An effective conclusion that sums up your ideas
