the y-intercept, as in before the case of the plane, is when x = 0, let's take a peek at f(x), when is x = 0?    

and the y-intercept for g(x) is pretty obvious, check part a)

well, I'd like to point out, the y-intercept of f(x) is -1, and for g(x) is -7

ok...which one is greater, well, you know, on the negative side, for negative values, greater values are the ones closer to  0, so... -1 is indeed greater than -7, because -1 is closer to 0.
