So you add all of the numbers of books owned by each student then divide it by 8, after you get the result you subtract the total by the number of books of each student individually (and if you get a negative it will be positive) then after you finish subtracting all 8 students book total you add up the numbers together and then you divide by 8 again and you get your mean.. hope this helped

(B) Take each number and subtract it by the mean. For example 7-8= -1. Then take the absolute value of that number. For example. l7-8l= 1. Do that for every number. Add the differences together. 0+1+1+1+0+2+1+0=6. Divide the sum by the number of values added. 6/8= .75  This is the mean absolute value deviation.
