Times the  , both the numerator and denominator, by 8 to get the denominator to 16.
Times the  , both the numerator and denominator, by 4 to get the denominator to 16.

Then rewrite the problem, 


now that the denominators are all the same, you can solve...
subtract the  from both sides

you should get 

Multiply both sides by 16 (it'll cancel both the 16 out making it go away)
     8x = 11

divide each side by 8 to have the x alone

     8x = 11
     8      8
