How do you use numerical expressions to solve real-world problems?

We know that numerical expressions are the expressions that contains numbers and operations namely addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Now, numbers are required in our life to make it easier.

For e.g. If we need to find the number of candies which are to be distributed among the class of 50 students, where each student get 2 candies each.

We do not start counting the numbers but instead use numerical expressions as,

Number of students in the class = 50

Number of candies each student gets = 2

Total number of candies required = 50 × 2 =100.

So, we see that in place of using the time consuming method of counting, we used numerical expressions which saved the time and was easy to apply.

In this way, there are numerous real-life situations which are easily solved with the help of numerical expressions such as when we need to find how much discount is applied to a product, to find the area of a rectangular park, to find the amount of ingredients required to bake a cake and many more.
