Astore is having a 10%-off sale. it gives an additional 10% off if the item is still above $100 after the first discount. a jacket costs $199.99. will you get the second discount and if so, how many dollars will you save in total?
could anyone give me a straight answer, i just want the explanation, then the answer. don't give me hints!

To get second discount, 90% of the price must be > $100 
hence 90% of 199.99 = 199.99/100*90 = $179.991 (Price after 1st discount)
Since the price after first discount is > $100 , it is eligible for second discount. 
Price after 2nd discount of 10% = 179.991/100*90 = $161.9919
Savings = 199.99-161.9919 = 37.9981 = 38 dollars saved. 
*note, you Do Not -20% straight from original price as it says 10% After first discount.
