Y=x-4 2x+y=5 solve each system of linear equations by substitution

Substitute the x-4 in to the second equation for the y:
2x+(x-4)=5
2x+x-4=5

Combine like terms and add the 4 to both sides
3x=9

Divide by 3:
x=3

Substitute the 3 in for x in either equation and solve for y:
y=3-4
y=-1


x=3
y=-1

4+2=-2. 1+2=3. y=-2/3x+b. 2=4/3+b. 2/3=b. the answer is y= -2/3x+2/3
