First, to add 2 fractions, they must have the same denominator. To do so, multiply 1/8 by 5 and 13/20 by 2 to get 5/40+26/40. Now just add the numerators. the answer should be 31/40 :)

To find a common denominator, you multiply each denominator by each other, for example; 8 x 13. Then, you do the same to the numerator. To the 1/8, multiply that side by 13 separately from the numerator and denominator. For the 13/20, multiply the numerator and denominator separately by 8.
