A fair coin is tossed 14 times. How many possible outcomes are there?

First of all, how many possible outcomes are there?

If we represent one outcome by a string of fourteen H or T symbols, it is pretty clear that there are  2∗2∗2...∗2  (fourteen times)  =214  possibilities.

Of these, exactly 14 have precisely one head.

… and so it goes on. The fourteen outcomes have an H in each of the fourteen possible positions.

So the probability of getting exactly one head is  14/214 .
