1)A fisheries biologist wants to estimate the average weight of small mouth bass in Gull Lake. He doesn’t know the standard deviation of the weights of the bass but he knows that
the fish will range from 1 to 6 pounds. How large of a sample should he take if he wants to
estimate the average weight to within one half of a pound and wants to be 99% confident?
2) In a survey of 2000 randomly selected grade school teachers it was found that 480 felt
unprepared to integrate technology into the grade or subject they taught. Construct a 95 %
confidence interval for the true proportion of grade school teachers who are unprepared to
integrate technology into the grade or subject they taught.

Here is their argument. given the obtuse angle x, we make a quadrilateral abcd with ∠dab = x, and ∠abc = 90◦, and ad = bc. say the perpendicular bisector to dc meets the perpendicular bisector to ab at p. then pa = pb and pc = pd. so the triangles pad and pbc have equal sides and are congruent. thus ∠pad = ∠pbc. but pab is isosceles, hence ∠pab = ∠pba. subtracting, gives x = ∠pad−∠pab = ∠pbc −∠pba = 90◦. this is a preposterous conclusion – just where is the mistake in the "proof" and why does the argument break down there?
