Task 1 Directions
You have been studying sailing. As part of this you have been looking into storms and winds and its impact on sailing. You have found several radical equations that are used in weather.
Take each radical equation and write it with rational exponents.
In a hurricane, the mean sustained wind velocity v (in meters per second) can be modeled by 6.31013-p , where p is the air pressure (in millibars) at the center of the hurricane.
The mean sustained wind velocity has the equation:
Tsunamis, or large tidal waves are generated by underwater earthquakes in the Pacific Ocean. The speed of the tsunami in meters per second is 3.1d, where d is the depth of the ocean in meters.
