1- You are a grade 8 teacher, your lesson for next week is “Functions”. Make a comparison chart to help you explain and compare the following topics to your students.
Relations as ordered pairs, mapping diagrams, and graphs
Functions as ordered pairs, mapping diagrams, and graphs. Functions should then be separated into 2 categories:
• Linear functions: linear functions with positive slopes and linear functions with negative slopes
• Non-Linear Functions
For each of the topics above (bolded), you should include a definition, and illustration/representation of the concept, and an example.
2- Choose one example where functions are used in real-life (vending machine, coffee machine, ATM machine…) and illustrate it.
Your illustration must include:
The inputs of the function (what enters the machine)
A clear drawing of the function machine
The outputs of the function (what comes out of the machine)
Then explain how your machine works and why it represents a function.
