Please help, Sara left a bin outside in her garden to collect rainwater. She notices that 1/8 gallon of water fills 2/3 of the bin. Write and solve an equation to find the amount of water that will fill the entire bin. Show your work.

Find a common denominator. I’ll use 24. So then multiply the numerators but what you multiplied the denominator by in order to get 24. Example: 2/3 is now 16/24 & 1/8 is 3/24. Now you can see that 3/24 of 1 container is 16/24 of the other. In order to get a full container you’ll need half of what you just filled up. Meaning 1/8 gal. + 1/16 gal = whole container. Also can be written as 3/16 gal and 1/8=2/16 gal in the first container.
