men and women. Two groups of overweight dieters were randomly selected. The first sample
contained 30 women and came from a population with a standard deviation of 2.6 lb. The
other sample was formed by 40 men. The standard deviation of the population of men is
1.9 lb. Their weight losses were recorded over a 90-day period. The average weight losses of
the women’s sample is 21.3 lb, while the average weight losses of the men’s sample is 18.4
lb. At α = 0.05 is the researcher correct?
