On TV shows that feature singing competitions, contestants often wonder if there is an
advantage in performing last. To investigate, researchers selected a random sample of
600 college students and showed each student the audition video of 12 different singers.
Each student viewed videos in random order. We would expect approximately 1/12 of the
students to prefer the last singer seen, assuming order doesn't matter. In this study, 59 of
the 600 students preferred the last singer they viewed. We want to perform a test at the a
= 0.05 significance level of
H:P =
12
where p = the true proportion of college students who prefer the last singer they see.
1. Check that the conditions for performing the test are met.
2. Calculate the standardized test statistic.
3. Find the P-value using Table A or technology and interpret in context.

Have you ever been in the middle of telling a story and had to use hand gestures or even a drawing to make your point? in algebra, if we want to illustrate or visualize a key feature of a function, sometimes we have to write the function in a different form—such as a table, graph, or equation—to determine the specific key feature we’re looking for. think about interactions with others and situations you’ve come across in your own life. how have you had to adjust or change the way you represented something based on either the concept you were trying to describe or the person you were interacting with? explain how the complexity or layout of the concept required you to change your style or presentation, or how the person’s unique learning style affected the way you presented the information.
