Tavon makes gift boxes of various sizes by removing a square from each corner
of a rectangular piece of cardboard and then folding up the sides, as shown in
the figure. He wants to know how much cardboard he uses for each box and the
volume of each box.
1. To make a box 3 inches deep, Tavon removes a
3-inch by 3-inch square from each corner of an
x-inch by x-inch square of cardboard. Write a
quadratic function A in standard form to model
the area of the remaining cardboard after the
corners are removed. Justify your answer.
