An empirical analysis of women in upper management positions at U. S. firms was published in a research journal. Monthly data (n = 252 months) were collected for several variables, including the number of females in managerial positions, the number of females with a college degree, and the number of female high school graduates with no college degree. Similar data were collected for males. The correlation coefficient relating number of females in managerial positions and number of females with a college degree was reported as r = .983. Interpret this result.
