1) Your neighbor has a rectangular garden plot that measures l feet by w feet.

5a) Write an expression for the perimeter of the garden.

5b) She would like to enlarge the garden by increasing the length by 5 feet and the width by 3 feet. Write an expression that represents the amount of fencing she would need for her new garden.

5c) From your observations in parts a and b, complete the following: if a > 0 is added to the length of a rectangle and b > 0 is added to its width, then the perimeter increases by ?

5d) Suppose your neighbor decided to enlarge the rectangular garden by doubling the length and width of the garden instead. Write an expression that represents the amount of fencing she would need to fence in her new garden.

5e) Compare the amount of fencing used in the original garden (see part a) with the amount needed for the garden with dimensions doubled (see part d).

5f) If both the length and width of a rectangle are multiplied by the same positive number 'n', how is the perimeter affected?
