A new employee of the Pets and Tails department store wants to find out if there is a difference in the time to get to work, depending on whether he drives on the new highway, or if he takes the bus, or if he takes back roads.

As an experiment, he randomly selected 15 different days and recorded the time it took to get to work.

At the .05 significance level, can he conclude that there is a difference between the driving times?

New highway Bus trip Back Roads 98 79 65 85 86 83 91 72 78 87 82 66 98 91 81

What is the null hypothesis?

What is the alternative hypothesis?

What is the level of significance? (Given in the problem.)

What is the test statistic? (Remember that you are comparing the difference between 3 populations.)

Use Tools - Data Analysis - ANOVA:Single Factor Anova: Single Factor to find the F statistic:

What is the F value? (Found in the data created by Excel.)

What is the F critical value? (Found in the data created by Excel.)

What is your decision?
