Solution:  

Given expression is 1 + 4(2 - 3)2

In order to solve the above expression, we should have to follow the rule called "BODMAS". The BODMAS stands for “Brackets, order, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction”, which means  that when a expression is given involving arithmetic operations we should have to follow the hierarchy of that order. i.e., we should solve brackets first and then order, division, multiplication, addition and then subtraction.

In the given question, as per BODMAS rule, we should solve the brackets expressions first i.e., (2-3) = -1. Hence we get,

= 1 + 4(2-3)2  

= 1+ 4(-1)2  

Now we have to proceed with multiplication of -1 with 2. Hence the above equation becomes,

= 1 + 4(-2)

Now solve the brackets i.e. multiplication of -2 with 4. Hence the above equation becomes,

= 1 – 8

Now proceed with subtraction of 1 with -8. We get  

= -7

Hence, with the help of BODMAS we have calculated the value as -7.
