Ireally need with this word problem!
a certain car that is being tested by its manufacturer uses its entire fuel supply in about 38 hours when idling. the same car, when driven at 60 miles per hour on a test track, uses about three-and-a-half times as much fuel per hour as it does when idling. if the engine has been idling for 10 hours and the car is then run at 60 miles per hour, how much longer will the car run before it uses up all of its fuel?

answer: it actually depends on which is the independent variable and which is the dependent variable. let us say we're looking at a linear equation. y=2x+3. we theoretically could switch the equation to be x=(y-3)/2 and it would be the same line. so either a causes b or it can be that b causes a. so technically the answer is false

if the larger fraction divides with the smaller fraction to equal 1, it is proportional. so let me show you what i mean:

when i divide 22/33 by 4/6 i get 1, so we know it is proportional, and it is the same with 14/7 and 7/3.5. now if i divide 3/9 by 1.5/3 i get .66666 so therefore we know it is not proportional.
