You have to be a bit more specific than that

You simply substitute, for example, if you have this problem
N+Y-3 x 2 = ? For N=6 and Y=7, solve.

You would substitute.
6+7-3 x 2
6+7-6
13-6
7
All you do is substitute the letter for what the problem says it it equals. I hope this makes sense:)
