This is despite the fact that our laws stipulate that anyone who commits or participates in child marriage will be fined rs 1,000 or sentenced to imprisonment for more than three months. However, child marriage still exists in remote rural and mountainous areas of our country. Many years ago, on the occasion of Akati, the Marwar district of Rajasthan held a public mass wedding for 10,000 children. Today Rajasthan has become the worst state for child marriage. Almost every year, there are numerous pages reporting child marriage cases, such as an 8-year-old girl marrying a 40-year-old man. Child marriage is a serious phenomenon in our country. More than 100 million people in our country are married before the age of 18, 85 million of them are women. Patriarchy is the root of child marriage in China. Patriarchy must be tackled once and for all, education must be expanded, and girls must gain confidence so they can resist child marriage and create their own lives. Child marriage is not only a human rights or gender issue, but also a demographic, health, educational and economic issue. If child marriage is not eliminated, the resulting low-quality labor force will become an obstacle to China's economic development.
