What are the roles of the Corrections component in the criminal justice system?

Professionals within the corrections system work to help rehabilitate offenders, and provide a system where those accused of a crime are monitored and released  hopefully to not commit a crime again. Correction officers supervise convicted offenders prison, on probation, or on parole in the community.
