While the discussion surrounding political parties often involves people saying things like “vote the person, not the party” or “people over politics”, the truth is, most Americans recognize the importance of political parties in organizing and strategizing to win elections. (This is one of the reasons why there is virtually zero support to remove party identifiers from the names of the candidates on the ballot) Given this understanding, discuss the importance of coalition-building in your discussion board post and give an assessment on what each party can do to win elections in Texas. How can the Democrats start winning statewide elections in Texas again when it seems Republicans have total control? What could Republicans do to increase their numbers despite changing demographics favoring the Democrats? Are there groups in Texas that could be aligned with one another that are not yet? Do you think it is best when only one party controls a state? If yes, why? If no, how could the political parties better operate to allow for more unity?
