Wesley Branch Rickey (1881-1965) was a baseball General Manager who was against segregation in professional sports and hired the first black baseball players for a Major League. He became General Manager of the Brooklin Dodgers in 1943, and in 1945, he promoted two important things that helped the game. He founded the Major League for black players and he hired the first African American baseball player of that time: Jackie Robinson. This hire and his success as a player helped open the door of professional sports for other minority athletes.
