What were the main goals of the allies post war policies towards the defeated axis countries

The goal of the Allied powers after World War II was to restructure European society to ensure that individuals like Hitler could not rise to power again. This is why the Allied Powers split up Germany into 4 demilitarized zones. These four zones would be occupied by the four main Allied powers including the United States, Soviet Union, Great Britain, and France.

Along with splitting up Germany as a whole, these four allies during the war split up the capital of Germany (Berlin). Berlin was split into East and West Berlin, with East Berlin being controlled by the Soviet Union and West Berlin being controlled by the US, Great Britain, and France.
