Why does shakespeare include this comic speech by mercutio?

Mercutio's comic speech is there because he's the comic relief in the play. The play is full of suspensful moments that are full of emotions and hardships and Mercutio as a character is there to give the audience some time to breather between the suspensful scenes. Of course, when he's gone so is the easiness in the play.
