Jazz music was especially contagious throughout white culture into Europe. African American musicians were hired to perform in venues that they were not allow to attend as a customer. Some were even recruited to play in bands in Europe before WWII were jazz was a special commodity. African American writing was also becoming respected in white communities with household names like Langston Hughs and Zora Neal Hurston.
