Why was the battle of the hornet's nest so significant?

During the American Civil War, there were many confrontations that took place, and which were central to both the Confederates and the Union. However, one that stands historically as very significant, because it became the turning of the tide for the Union against the Confederacy, and because of its bloodiness, was, the Battle of Shiloh, during which the famous Hornet´s Nest took place.

The name derives from what the Confederates said the bullets of the Union soldiers sounded like as they stood to defend this privileged stretch of land from being overun by the Confederate Army. It also became central because the small group of Union soldiers left on this piece of land, most of them untried soldiers, were able to hold themselves together until reinforcements arrived under the command of General Ulysses S. Grant. This, in turn meant, that the Union line was maintained. In order to upset the control regained by Union forces, Confederates, according to historians, were forced to assemble the largest force of artillery ever to have been used in battle, which further exhausted them and opened them to Union advances.
