What was the focal point of the building in most central plan churches?

The pulpit is the usual focal point of central churches built during the early days. This is because of the influence of Protestant reformation, the spoken word, and the sermon as the central act of any church service. Pulpits should be designed to allow its church goers to hear and see the minister. These structures in the church have always been the main feature of many Western churches.
