The trial of the Rosenbergs was widely protested by the people of the United States as they believed it to be the reaction of the anti-communist surge within the political ranks of the United States Government. The decades of the fifties were called the Cold war decade, in which tensions between the two superpowers(USA and USSR) escalated, along with the expansion of a nuclear weapon arsenal. This was accompanied by a general hysteria and antagonism for communism towards Soviet Russia in general by the United States. The Rosenbergs were accused of helping and passing on information to the Soviet scientists about the capacity of the USA’s nuclear arsenal. In short, they were charged with sedition and blamed as national conspirators and was awarded the capital punishment. This created a lot of protests from the US public, who believed the Rosenbergs were innocent and that allegations against them were wrong and unfounded.
