What impact did european settlement have on american indians during the colonial period?

They had the most traumatic effect possible. First, a big proportion (around 50%) of the American Indians died  as a result of their contact with the diseases that the Europeans brought with them.

Additionally, many were killed in direct fighting.

After that, their land was taken away and they were forced to move more and more west and to smaller parts of life.
