Federalists favored a Constitution, did not find a Bill of Rights necessary, and saw a large republic as necessary to protect individual freedoms; they basically believed that a strong centralized power was the way to protect freedoms and ensure order. Anti-Federalists were the opposite on all of these points: they opposed a Constitution, but favored a Bill of Rights, and thought a small republic would be better suited to protecting people's rights. Anti-Federalists feared the construction and potential corruption of a strong centralized power and thought it best if government was kept small.
