What prompts reverend sykes to order that the doors be closed and that no one be allowed to leave for a period of time?

The lack of fund to give to Mrs. Helen Robinson as Mr. Tom Robinson was in Jail. So the only place where that money could be raised was the church members, being a part of a community where the first rule of thumb was love your neighbor as yourself. It was only natural for Reverend Skyes to order the doors to be closed until the money for Helen Robinson had been raised afterall, the church was her second home and family according to the principles of christianity
