The judicial branch can check the other branches by declaring laws and by interpreting

In order to prevent the United States from becoming like the tyranny they fought against, the framers of the Constitution gave the Judicial Branch power to declare laws made by the Executive Branch unconstitutional, and essentially "veto" them. In order to do this, they interpret the law and decide if they're Constitutional or not.
