Why did the us delay entry to world 1 until 1917

It took until 1917 for the United States to enter World War I because President Woodrow Wilson was an isolationist, who believed that the war was a European conflict and therefore that the best position for America was neutrality.

The truth is that during the course of the war there were situations that influenced the abandonment of American neutrality: first, the sinking of the Lusitania, with the consequent death of dozens of American citizens. Then with the indiscriminate submarine warfare by Germany, which threatened American trade and the safety of its sailors. Finally, the interception of the Zimmermann Telegram, by which Germany urged Mexico to attack the United States. All these events led America to abandon its neutrality and enter the allied side in 1917.
