The reason why Great Britain was willing to sign the Treaty of Ghent in 1814, even though neither Britain nor the United States had gained much from the war is because the taxes required to continue paying for the war in Britain were growing more and more undesirable, and the British were losing more in revenue than they were gaining in land.
