This is important because the laws of other nations and reservations are the product of their culture and values, and have been agreed upon and respected by the people of that nation. regardless of whether they conform to our values or whether we share those same laws, we must respect that we are guests in that nation and must abide by those rules.  an easy way to familiarize yourself with the laws of other places is to do research online. you could visit the wikipedia page of the nation's civil code, or  visit a website which advises on potential difference in customs and laws of other countries.
