(new mexico history) - what industries influenced economic development in the late 1800's?

In July 4th 1848, the United States officially ended its war with Mexico with the signing of the Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treaty. The entire event was made public in Washington, and the United State was very happy because its main goals have been achieved. The United States now had possession of California and New Mexico, and to reciprocate they recognized  The Rio Grande as the boundary line for Southern Texas.

New Mexico was a very hard land for new comers, nevertheless the few Anglo-Americans who adventured to the territory between the 1840s and 1860s,  open up the economy by establishing freight services with the East. Eventually, the railroads were built and regular stagecoach passenger services were created to stimulate economic development.

Later on, military construction increased, giving another incentive to the economy. Fort Union and Fort Stanton were built in 1851 and 1855 respectively in the Indian frontier.
