The Love Canal tragedy is the disaster that took plae near the Niagara Falls. Between the years 1942 and 1953 a company by the Name of Hook er Chemical contaminated a landfill in the Niagra Falls area and this area was known as the Love Canal. Hook er Chemicals dumped 22000 tnnes of toxic waste and covered it up with dirt and fillings. Then this area was sold to the area to the Niagra Falls School Board for $1. A school and about a 100 homes came up in the area. Later these chemicals started coming to the surface due to heavy rains. This created permanent damage to the people living there.
