The U.S. supreme court has ruled with regard to high-speed police pursuits, that an officer who stops a high speed chase by ramming a fleeing suspects car or shooting at it do not violate the Fourth Amendment, even when it places the fleeing driver at risk of serious injury. In Plumhoff V. Rickard's case, the court acknowledged the serious danger that a reckless and unscrupulous driver represents to the safety of citizens and allows the use of deadly force to stop them, as the Ohio Supreme Court said in 2016, in stating that security officers must do what is necessary to stop the imminent danger that represents a high-speed police pursuits to people.
